Composite resin manhole covers are mainly composed of the following components:
Resin: Typically made of unsaturated polyester resin or vinyl ester resin.
Unsaturated polyester resin: Offers good molding processability, cures rapidly at room temperature, and can be manufactured into various complex shapes. It is relatively inexpensive, has good mechanical properties such as high strength and hardness, can withstand certain pressure and impact, and also has good corrosion resistance, resisting the erosion of common acids, alkalis, and other chemicals.
Vinyl ester resin: A high-performance resin combining the advantages of epoxy resin and unsaturated polyester resin. It has excellent corrosion resistance, especially against harsh environments such as strong acids and alkalis; it also possesses good mechanical properties and fatigue resistance, enabling the manhole cover to maintain stable performance over long-term use and reducing fatigue-related damage.
Reinforcing material: Generally glass fiber. Glass fiber has high strength and high modulus, significantly improving the mechanical properties of the manhole cover. It can be uniformly dispersed in the resin matrix, bearing most of the external force, giving the manhole cover good compressive, bending, and impact resistance. Meanwhile, fiberglass also increases the dimensional stability of manhole covers, reducing deformation during use.
Fillers: Commonly used fillers include calcium carbonate and aluminum hydroxide. Adding fillers can reduce costs while improving certain properties of the manhole cover. For example, calcium carbonate can increase the hardness and wear resistance of the manhole cover, while aluminum hydroxide has certain flame-retardant properties, improving the fire resistance of the manhole cover. In addition, fillers can adjust the density of the manhole cover to achieve a suitable weight, facilitating installation and use.
Additives: These include curing agents, accelerators, and release agents. Curing agents and accelerators control the curing reaction rate of the resin, allowing the resin to reach the required properties within a certain time. Release agents help the manhole cover to be smoothly released from the mold after molding, ensuring the surface quality and dimensional accuracy of the manhole cover.
