Shape Design: Primarily Round, Evenly Distributed Stress
Rural septic tank covers commonly use a round design. This shape offers the advantage of even stress distribution. When vehicles drive over them or pedestrians step on them, the pressure is evenly distributed along the circumference, preventing localized stress concentration that could lead to collapse or tilting. Compared to square covers, round structures are more stable over long-term use, making them particularly suitable for rural roads or courtyards where heavy loads are likely to be incurred.
Material Selection: Ductile Iron and Composite Resin
The material of the cover directly affects its durability and safety. Common types include:
Ductile Iron Covers: High strength, strong corrosion resistance, and able to withstand significant pressure, suitable for areas requiring long-term heavy loads (such as roads with frequent vehicle traffic). Their surface is usually treated with rust prevention, and their service life can reach over 10 years.
Composite Resin Covers: Lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and possess anti-theft properties (no metal recycling value). However, it has poor high-temperature resistance and may deform in high-temperature environments, therefore it is mostly used in pedestrian areas or light vehicle traffic scenarios.
Load Capacity: Heavy-duty standard, ensuring safety. Septic tank manhole covers are heavy-duty manhole covers, with a design load-bearing capacity of generally no less than 400KN (approximately 40 tons). This standard can meet the crushing needs of common rural vehicles (such as tractors and trucks), preventing damage to the manhole cover or septic tank structure due to overloading. Some manhole covers are further enhanced in load-bearing capacity through thickened design or added reinforcing plates.
Marking Design: Easy to identify and maintain. To facilitate quick location by maintenance personnel, the surface of the manhole cover is usually marked with the words "septic tank" or drawn with special patterns (such as a septic tank cross-section diagram). Some products also use color differentiation (such as green or black) to distinguish them from rainwater manhole covers and sewage manhole covers, reducing the risk of misoperation. In addition, the edges of the manhole cover may be designed with anti-slip textures to improve pedestrian safety.
Other Features: Anti-theft and Sealing. Some manhole covers are equipped with anti-theft locks or concealed hinges to prevent unauthorized opening. Meanwhile, rubber sealing rings are usually used between the manhole cover and the manhole ring to reduce odor leakage and rainwater infiltration, thus extending the service life of the septic tank.
